Awareness Breakfast

Awareness Breakfest 2010

The 14th Awareness Breakfast was yet another tremendous success. On October 21, nearly 1,000 Secondary 5 students gathered at the Sheraton Centre for a morning of intensive learning about healthy lifestyles.

This year, the Foundation chose dedication, motivation and personal achievement as the themes for the Awareness Breakfast. For the occasion, the Foundation welcomed a high-profile guest speaker and exceptional athlete, Caroline Ouellette, a member of the Canadian women’s hockey team. During her hour-long presentation, she talked about her career path and all the energy she devoted to achieve her dream of winning Olympic gold. The three-time gold medallist’s speech was inspiring for more than a few in attendance – the Q&A session after her talk was extremely lively! After all, it isn’t every day that students have the opportunity to talk to a woman who has excelled in such an untraditional field. Our guest’s advice will no doubt prove useful for the students, both at school and in their private lives.

The students also had the opportunity to visit booths set up by Grandma Emily’s Granola, the Youth Coalition Against Smoking, the Cedars Cancer Institute and, of course, the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation. The booths provided information on exercise, smoking cessation, healthy nutrition, breast cancer and much more.

For the third year in a row, Virgin Radio 96 on-air personality Kelly Alexander emceed the Awareness Breakfast. She was particularly appreciated by the many students who received a door prize!

The Foundation wishes to thank Metro, the Awareness Breakfast’s title partner for the third year in a row and a loyal ally in the cause; the two co-chairs, Stéphanie Trudel and Susan Ohrt, for their tireless work; all our generous partners and sponsors: Trudeau Corporation, the Sheraton Centre, Grandma Emily’s Granolas, Phil Communications, Virgin Radio 96, Gowlings, Savoura and the Jouez Gagnant program; and all the dedicated volunteers whose contributions made the event such a success.
