CIBC Run for the Cure

Almost 30 000 Quebeckers run for the Cure

The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation are proud to announce the excellent results of this year’s CIBC Run for the Cure, which raised $2,6 million for the cause. In addition to this amount, other donations will be received throughout October. In total, almost 30 000 Quebeckers took part in the Run: 20 000 in Montreal, 8 000 in Quebec City, and, for the first time in Sherbrooke, 1 500 people gathered at Jacques-Cartier park.

“Each year, I’m awestruck by the incredible energy of the people who take part in the Run. Whether they are survivors, family members of cancer patients, or participating as a personal challenge, everyone has their own reason for running, and it’s so inspiring to see how devoted they are to raising money for this cause. It’s also encouraging that other cities in Quebec have joined this great movement. Let’s hope that more cities take part in next year’s CIBC Run for the Cure,” said Mitsou Gélinas, spokesperson for the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation for the past five years.

A life without breast cancer: this is the primary mission of the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, and this is why research remains one of its priorities. The Foundation recently donated $1.5 million to the McGill University Health Centre to help create the Breast Cancer Foundation Lymphedema Support Centre. The Foundation also hopes to make investments of similar scope to other large Quebec hospitals.

“With the donations we receive from events such as the Run, we also want to develop services that are better adapted to the realities of today’s women in several regions of the province, not only in the large urban centres. It’s important for us that the money we raise here be spent on women here,” Suzanne LeBreux, executive director of the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, said proudly.

The Foundation wishes to thank the event's emcees, Marie-Élaine Proulx and Vinny Barruco (Montreal), Joanne Boivin (Quebec City), Valérie Sirois (Sherbrooke), as well as artists, volunteers and partners who helped make this day such a big succes! Congratulations to all participants and 2010 team awards winners!
