You’ve probably noticed an increasing number of products with the pink ribbon logo, the international symbol of the fight against breast cancer. Many consumers are attracted to the idea of buying a useful item and helping an important cause in the process. Organizations that have this kind of shopping program, including the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, usually follow a set of guidelines designed to ensure transparency and the proper handling of every cent spent by consumers and their partners.
The following guide makes it easy for you to shop for the cure with your eyes open, confident that your purchase really is helping the cause.

In the 2011-12 fiscal year, the Foundation invested as follows in the three components of its mission:
Research funding: 67%
The projects funded by the Foundation are active in the following internationally recognized research fields:
- Cancer biology
- Etiology (causes)
- Prevention
- Screening, diagnosis, prognosis
- Treatment
- Oncopsychology (living with cancer)
- Scientific modelling
- Referral, information and help line (trilingual service);
- Financial assistance in partnership with the Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Foundation;
- Contribution to the creation of the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation Lymphedema Support Centre;
- Yoga and art-therapy programs in Montreal, Laval and Quebec City;
- Information on sex, relationships and intimacy during and after cancer;
- Support for dragon-boat teams made up of former breast cancer patients.
Breasth-health promotion through awareness and education campaigns: 8%
- Province-wide awareness campaign promoting good breast-health habits (February 2012);
- Presentations on breast cancer for companies and educational institutions.
