How to Shop for the Cure?
You’ve probably noticed an increasing number of products with the pink ribbon logo, the international symbol of the fight against breast cancer. Many consumers are attracted to the idea of buying a useful item and helping an important cause in the process. Organizations that have this kind of shopping program, including the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, usually follow a set of guidelines designed to ensure transparency and the proper handling of every cent spent by consumers and their partners.
This quick guide will help you “shop pink” with all the information you need, so that you can be sure your purchase is truly helping the cause.
Which organization will benefit from the purchase?
Companies that partner with legitimate organizations are generally proud to promote the relationship. That is why all partners in the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation’s Shop for the Cure program must label products with the words “Proud partner” or “For the benefit of” alongside the Foundation’s logo. In exchange for its use of the pink ribbon logo, the company agrees to donate a predetermined amount to the Foundation. Make sure you can clearly identify the name of the organization associated with the pink ribbon. Is it active in Quebec, the rest of Canada, or the United States? How does the organization use the funds raised through its partnerships?
How much money will the company donate to the Foundation for the fight against breast cancer?
When the Foundation partners with a company, it makes sure consumers can easily learn how much money is being donated. Once the business model has been established, it is indicated either on the product’s packaging or in the partner’s profile on the Foundation website. Whether this information comes in the form of an amount per item sold or the total amount donated to the Foundation, it is important that consumers be aware of the extent to which their purchase will contribute to the fight against breast cancer. The Foundation works to ensure that a reasonable portion of the purchase price is donated.
How can I be sure the Foundation has approved the use of its name or logo on a product?
All products sold as part of the Foundation’s Shop for the Cure program are listed on its website, at http://www.rubanrose.org/en/shop-cure. You are also welcome to contact us at info@rubanrose.org or 1 877 990-7171 for more information about the partnership between the Foundation and any company.
How does the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation select its partners?
The Foundation’s team carefully evaluates every partnership proposal it receives. As an initial screen, any product of a sexual nature is rejected without further review. Next, the Foundation ensures that the partnership will be a “win-win” relationship, by declining arrangements by which a company could benefit unfairly from the cause at the expense of the Foundation or consumers. A minimum donation is required for each agreement.
